Position title
Automotive Application Engineer / Basic Application Engineer
Description
The Basic Application Engineer serves as the technical bridge between product design engineering and plant-floor vehicle assembly. This role is responsible for the baseline setup, calibration, line integration, and troubleshooting of automotive systems (such as powertrain controls, ADAS modules, chassis electronics, or body control units) during pilot runs and full-scale production
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Line Integration & Flashing: Configure, flash, and validate base software/firmware and hardware calibrations on Electronic Control Units (ECUs) across assembly stations.
- Diagnostics & Root-Cause Analysis: Diagnose End-of-Line (EOL) testing failures, DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), and CAN/LIN/Ethernet communication bus faults using diagnostic tools.
- Process Standardization: Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), process control plans, and work instructions for flashing, calibration, and test routines.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with plant quality, manufacturing, and design engineering teams to resolve vehicle assembly variances and engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Launch & Ramp-Up Support: Lead pre-series vehicle testing, line trials, and software baseline rollouts during new model launches.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 1–4 years in automotive manufacturing, vehicle systems calibration, or plant-floor application engineering.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Automotive Ethernet).
- Hands-on experience with automotive diagnostics and flashing tools (e.g., Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, INCA, ODX/ODIS, or UDS protocols).
- Understanding of automotive quality frameworks (IATF 16949, APQP, FMEA, 8D).
- Core Competencies: Strong analytical troubleshooting skills, adaptability in fast-paced production environments, and effective cross-team communication.
